Commissions

I am opening my commissions at a limited capacity right now. The requirements for my commissions have changed so please read carefully.

From here on out I require that you either work with a local friend/photographer (amateur or professional) for good reference images or you make the trip out to Albuquerque New Mexico here so I can take the reference images myself.

I can provide direction on what to do or look for in taking the best images for the commissions.

That said, I look forward to doing some really amazing commissions!

Starting price is at 3200.00 for a 24x30” painting. This is the standard size I work at. I can go larger but the budget goes up from there.

50% is required up front as a non refundable deposits. The reason for this is commissions require commitment on my side and yours. If I allocate time, materials and concepts, especially if I’m doing the photography, I require you to commitment to the project.

The other 50% is to be paid upon completion of the painting.

If you are coming to Albuquerque for me to take the reference images, my time and effort is included in the pricing. If you want me to travel to you, you will be responsible for my travel budget.

When you contact me I'll give you as much info as needed but here is the basics of what I suggest. Take photos of yourself and partner (if it's a couples portrait) where you are not looking at the camera. I don't work with selfies or couple looking into the camera. I prefer for peoples eyes to be closed, feels more intimate and is my personal preference. Look at the poses of my paintings and try and replicate them. Try not to wear logos or heavy patterns that are part of brands and recognizable. Shadows are you friend, light and shadows make a big difference to the dramatic mood of a pieces so take that into account. Taking the shots in the sunlight will help with that. Make it intimate, and gentle.

The painting will be on a cradled wood panel, ready to hang. You can hang it as is or you can take it to a framer afterwards and have a frame added. I paint in acrylics.

Shipping costs are also included in the price of the commission for everyone in the USA. Additional funds may be required for anyone outside the country.

Upon starting the commission I will ask you if there are any particular colors that I’ve used in paintings that you gravitate towards. I do not want to just replicate a previous work so the colors are just for reference.

My commissions are based on the type of work I do. Loving, romantic, joyous queer couples. If you want me to paint you in a really specific scene with any specific iconic locations, it’s not going to be a good fit for me. I need the freedom to come up with something unique to my style and ideas. I will use the reference images we create together and make something beautiful.

Before I start painting I will make a digital sketch using the reference images we made and get your approval. The final painting will change a bit as I need the freedom to make creative decisions along the way but it’ll be based on the agreed upon sketch. You are allowed to make two reasonable requests/changes to the sketch before I start painting.

I’m not looking to do any weird concept commissions. This isn’t a collaboration where you direct me and I paint your vision. This is you coming to me to do what I do and put you in the world I have created.

This will be first come first serve. You won’t be on the schedule until I’ve receive your deposit. I will aim to do 1 to 2 commissions a month based on what time I have available between my other projects.

Once we get you on the schedule we’ll want to immediately start working toward getting the reference images. Be it taken on your side or mine. Everyone’s time is precious so we’ll all do our best to make it an enjoyable experience.

I will not be able to promise a specific date, like for birthdays or Christmas being that I need good reference images surprise gifts will not likely be doable.

I will give you a rough date estimate on where you are on the schedule once I’ve received your deposit.

You will need to confirm clearly that you understand the terms of my commissions before we start the process so there are no mistakes or confusion as to how this all works.

I will do everything in my power to create a beautiful work of art for you and I’m very excited at the opportunity to make some real magic!
